Monterey Peninsula natives Jonathan Lee and Garrett Rodewald embarked on their journey in 2016 to create a sustainable solution for the quickly growing cannabis waste concern in California. Together, they combined their backgrounds in development and compliance, forming the Nation’s first, properly licensed cannabis waste management company. GAIACA has since become the industry leader in fully licensed, compliant waste management solutions.

GAIACA (pronounced GUY-UH-KUH)

A fusion of the word GAIA – a theory in which all life interacts beneficially and synergistically to improve our existence on Earth; and CA – short for the State of California in which we were founded. GAIACA is proud to be the Nation’s first, properly licensed cannabis waste management service provider. We service cultivators, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, testing laboratories, and events – all facets of the industry; and we help manage all forms of waste – plant material, packaged product, distillates/refinement byproduct, non-hazardous, hazardous, universal, etc.

Research has indicated that most of the currently operating cannabis businesses have not yet taken into consideration the waste that they produce, or how their entire operation could potentially be interrupted due to non-compliant waste management practices. That’s where we come in. From the roots of our name, GAIACA’s primary objective is to provide cannabis operators with a compliant yet sustainable solution for their regulated cannabis waste needs, allowing them to focus exclusively on what they do best.

According to California State Regulation, cannabis waste is defined as waste that is not hazardous and that contains cannabis that has been made “unusable and unrecognizable”. Unrendered “waste” is still a cannabis byproduct or product. Additionally, any ancillary tools for manufacturing (i.e. wax papers, gloves, lab utensils, etc.) that have the residue of THC or Cannabinoids are considered cannabis by-product.

Taylor Vozniak

Client Relations Specialist

Cannabis waste is any non-hazardous cannabis byproduct that has been made “unusable and unrecognizable”. If cannabis byproduct has been properly rendered into cannabis waste, then the cannabis waste does not need further treatment prior to disposal.
